Lettuce for Every Condition: A Production Vision Based on Recommendations from “Gautier Semences”

Lettuce has become an essential part of every dining table. To achieve successful production, careful selection of varieties and understanding of growing conditions are key. According to the publication International Outdoor Lettuce 2025, Gautier Semences, a leader in high-quality seed development, recommends varieties that are well-suited to climate challenges and resistant to diseases.

The company emphasizes the importance of adapting varieties to climatic conditions. For colder periods, varieties like Dalila, known for its resistance to low temperatures and attractive head appearance, or Ibery, ideal for the food industry due to its voluminous head and good white-to-green ratio, are highly recommended. Conversely, for warm conditions, Goldorac stands out with its tolerance to tip burn and fast bolting, while Golem offers a uniform plant with exceptional drought and disease resistance.

When it comes to disease resistance, Gautier Semences highlights varieties with double protection. For instance, Redigo 2 combines resistance to the latest strains of Bremia (Bl:29-41EU) and Fusarium (Fol:1 and Fol:4), making it an ideal choice for consistent production throughout the season. Similarly, Encierro, a butterhead type, is compact, tolerant, and boasts a healthy base.

Beyond productivity, the visual appeal of varieties is increasingly important in the market. Original varieties like Red Crush®, with its intensely red heart, capture buyers’ attention, while varieties like the Lollo type, with wavy, crispy leaves, add attractive texture and color to any plate.
