INTERPOMA: THE APPLE FAIR IN THE HEART OF THE ALPS

From November 21 to 23, the city of Bolzano, Italy, hosted the 13th edition of Interpoma, the only international trade fair dedicated exclusively to apples. This prestigious event attracted over 16,000 visitors and 400 exhibitors from more than 60 countries, positioning itself as the hub of innovation in the apple industry.

FOCUS ON INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY

The fair offered a rich program, including an exhibition, a two-day congress, and nine themed tours to some of the most advanced orchards in South Tyrol. Additionally, Interpoma served as a platform to showcase groundbreaking technologies, such as digital platforms for farm management and pest monitoring systems, contributing to the development of “orchards of the future.”

Special attention was given to the “Interpoma Award,” which honors sustainable innovations in apple cultivation. This year’s top prize went to “SporeScout” by BioScout, a system that uses robotics and artificial intelligence to precisely monitor fungal diseases.

BOLZANO – AN IDEAL ENVIRONMENT FOR APPLE CULTIVATION

Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, is located in a valley surrounded by the Alps, providing ideal conditions for fruit growing. Thanks to its Mediterranean-Alpine climate, with warm days and cool nights, the region is renowned for producing exceptional quality fruit with intense aromas. The Interpoma fair once again highlighted Bolzano’s role as a global center for innovation in apple production.

“South Tyrol has once again confirmed its leading position in the apple industry,” said Thomas Mur, Director of Fiera Bolzano.

SEARCHING FOR BEST PRACTICES

Among the guided tours, orchards employing modern irrigation systems and climate-change protection technologies drew particular attention. These examples demonstrate how the combination of natural resources and cutting-edge technology can lead to sustainable production.

Interpoma not only presents new trends but also inspires producers worldwide to improve their methods and address global market challenges. This fair remains a must-attend event for anyone dedicated to apple production and agrotechnology innovations.
