Del Soglio Family Farm – A Model of Modern Livestock Farming in Piedmont

Fossano, located in the heart of Piedmont, is renowned for breeding the prestigious Fassona Piemontese cattle. Here, the Del Soglio family farm stands out for its high standards in livestock farming. The farm is managed by Valeria and Alessandro, who are responsible for the daily care of the animals and the organization of feeding and fattening processes.

The Del Soglio farm has around 700 head of cattle, including 200 in the breeding herd. Special attention is given to feeding, which is adapted to the animals’ age and purpose. Cows in production receive corn silage, while fattening cattle are fed high-quality hay, dried using specialized equipment. This approach ensures top-quality meat, recognized at numerous fairs, including the famous “Fiera del Bue Grasso” in Carrù.

Modern mechanization plays a crucial role in farm operations. The farm has invested in a Merlo 42.7 telescopic loader, enabling the efficient feed transport, stable cleaning, and handling of large hay bales. With a maximum lifting capacity of 4.2 tons and a reach of 7 meters, this machine streamlines tasks, as confirmed by Daniele Del Soglio, who oversees mechanization on the farm.

Animal welfare is one of the family’s top priorities. The farm is equipped with ventilation systems that regulate temperature during the summer months, and music is played in the barns to keep the animals calm. Each cow has a digital ear tag connected to a health monitoring system, allowing for timely interventions when necessary.

The Del Soglio farm has also made significant investments in livestock facilities, doubling the building space to enhance animal comfort. This approach ensures easier access to food, water, and shade, contributing to better growth and meat quality.

The Del Soglio family follows an innovative direct meat sales model, bypassing intermediaries and working directly with butchers. This strategy provides better control over product quality and immediate feedback from customers. As the owners emphasize, cattle feeding—including protein-rich peas and carob—directly influences meat flavor, highlighting their commitment to quality.

The Del Soglio family farm exemplifies modern livestock farming, combining tradition and innovation to deliver high-quality products while ensuring animal welfare. This business model sets high standards in the Italian agricultural sector and proves that investing in quality always yields results.
