At the recent Interpoma fair in Bolzano, Italy, one of the most important events in the field of fruit production, the Slovenian company Trapview presented its innovation that garnered significant attention from professionals. Their automated system for monitoring and predicting pest behavior was recognized as one of the most innovative products in the field of plant protection, receiving a special award at the fair.
How Trapview Works
The Trapview system is the result of years of research and the application of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, and advanced sensors. According to the company’s representatives, the system not only detects pests but also predicts their occurrence up to ten days in advance. This is crucial for farmers facing the challenges of climate change in pest control.
The system consists of smart traps equipped with high-resolution cameras that record the presence of pests. The images are automatically sent to a centralized database where they are analyzed using species recognition algorithms. Based on the collected data, the system generates detailed reports and forecasts, enabling farmers to take preventive actions at the right time.
A key feature of the system is its self-cleaning mechanism, ensuring continuous functionality and minimal maintenance costs. The only consumable required is pheromone lures, which are replaced periodically.
Collaboration with Global Experts
Trapview already collaborates with prestigious institutions such as Rothamsted Research in the UK, confirming the scientific foundation and accuracy of the system. The data collected enables a detailed analysis of the population dynamics of more than 70 pest species, representing a significant advancement compared to traditional monitoring methods.
The system is successfully used in over 65 countries, including the United States, Brazil, Germany, France, and Spain. In total, more than 10,000 devices are in operation, with 6,000 to 7,000 active year-round.
Impact on Sustainability and Chemical Reduction
Using the Trapview system significantly reduces pesticide use, which is essential for environmental preservation and lowering production costs. “Our technology is not just a tool but a way to enhance integrated pest management and promote sustainable agriculture,” said the company representatives.
Recognition at Interpoma
The recognition received by the company at Interpoma further highlights the importance of their innovation. The Bolzano fair gathers the most prominent experts, producers, and innovators in the field of fruit production, and Trapview has stood out as a successful example of using digital technology to solve practical agricultural challenges.
“Sustainability, technology, and precision are key factors for the future of agriculture. With the Trapview system, farmers are one step ahead of the challenges posed by climate change and pest spread,” concluded the company representatives.
