In Veržej, a small town in north-eastern Slovenia, lies a true hidden gem: Tigeli Beekeeping. More than just a beekeeping farm, it is a living museum that safeguards the history and traditions of a craft spanning over a century.
The old beekeeping house, dating back to the 19th century, continues to fascinate visitors. Inside are 84 traditional hives of various types and over 300 artifacts – presses for honey and wax, smokers, molds, and old beekeeping literature. Each item tells a story of skill, resilience, and the cultural importance of bees in this region.
Visitors can also stroll through the medicinal and melliferous garden, where scents and colors create a unique atmosphere. The sweetest moment comes at the end: a tasting of honey and other artisanal products made by the Tigeli family from more than 150 bee colonies.
The selection includes honey liqueurs, propolis, and carefully prepared gift boxes for both private and business occasions. Every product reflects authenticity, tradition, and deep respect for nature.
The museum is also a place of learning. Its educational apiary gives guests the chance to observe bee life firsthand. At the same time, the exhibits bring the past to life, recalling a time when beekeeping was part of nearly every household. “The past is our future,” say the Tigeli family, showing that tradition still holds answers to today’s challenges.
Whoever embarks on the honey road of Tigeli Beekeeping leaves with unforgettable impressions – where bees are not only insects, but symbols of diligence, perseverance, and community.
