The Upper Engadine offers an unforgettable experience of exploring the picturesque mountains on horseback or in a carriage leading to the National Park. At “Engadin River Ranch”, these adventures are available to everyone, including beginners in horseback riding. Whether you want to escape the summer heat at 1700 meters above sea level in Madulain, enjoy the golden hues of autumn among the larches, or experience a true snowy winter, Willy Menduri offers horseback riding through the magnificent Grison mountains year-round.
From Breeding to a Renowned Farm
When Willy took over the estate in 2007, it was primarily dedicated to cattle breeding. Gradually, with great effort, he developed additional activities: the sale of homemade products, a farm shop, an ice skating rink in Madulain, and horseback riding. Eight years ago, he also took over the family farm in Chamfer, where he now raises cattle, a few horses, and goats. Today, the Madulain ranch employs three to four people who perform a variety of tasks.
The idea of horseback riding came from Canada, where Willy’s partner gained experience on a ranch. What started with two horses has now become a significant activity at the ranch. The offerings include rides of 1.5 or 2.5 hours, full-day excursions, and even multi-day adventures through mountain passes and along glaciers. In winter, guests can try ski-joring – a unique sport where skiers are pulled by a horse.
The farm produces fresh eggs, meat, jams, syrups, ice cream, and mountain cheeses. The cattle, mainly Angus breed, spend the summer on alpine pastures, and visitors can enjoy close contact with Franches-Montagnes horses, known for their calm nature.
Winter Ice Path and Family Space
During the winter, Willy maintains a skating track that runs through the ranch. The path is perfectly laid out, and guests can enjoy warm drinks in the “Engadin River Ranch Lounge.” The lounge is open year-round and is child-friendly, with many activities. The space is also available for private celebrations, such as birthdays and weddings.
One of the most popular activities is relaxation in the sauna and enjoying homemade specialties like grilled organic Angus meat, fondue, or homemade pizza. This experience, whether in the summer or winter setting, remains unforgettable.
More Than a Farm – An Important Partner for the Valley
In addition to traditional farm work, Willy offers agro-business services, including pasture management and transportation. With short summers in the Engadine, his work is crucial for maintaining pasture fertility.
The Engadine adventure at “Engadin River Ranch” combines natural beauty, outdoor activities, and a true mountain life experience.
